Obesity can have a huge impact on a person’s life. It is true that obesity related illnesses are considered the second leading cause of death in the United States. This problem contributes to over 300,000 deaths a year. Being obese is a major medical risk factor for developing serious medical conditions. Many doctors and patients are beginning to recognize the importance of successful weight loss programs to help those who are obese. One drastic, but often successful weight loss method is weight loss surgery.

Weight loss surgery is becoming more popular as people see the positive impact it can have on those who are obese. Obesity can cause serious medical problems and losing the excess weight can often reverse the conditions and can prevent them from developing in the future. Long term treatment in addition to healthy nutrition and exercise can help those suffering from type 2 diabetes.

Hypertension is another common risk of obesity. Hypertension is commonly known as high blood pressure. This disease is very common in those who are overweight and like diabetes; it can affect other parts of the body as well. It increases the chance of heart disease, kidney disease and strokes. One out of every four Americans suffers from this disease and it is most often treated with daily medication.
